Three Phase Transformers
 Three
Phase Transformers are used in many applications but are used
mainly because of three phase electricity used for power
distribution systems. Three phase transformers are used to
step-up or step-down voltages. Single phase transformers could be
used but three phase transformers use less material, smaller and
weight less than their single phase counterparts.
Three phase transformers
are constructed by winding three single phase transformers on a
single core. Then they are put in an enclosure which is filled with
dielectric oil. The dielectric oil performs several functions. Since
it is dielectric it serves as a nonconductor of electricity, it
provides electrical insulation between the winding and the case.
It is also used for cooling and to prevent the formation of
moisture, which can be harmful to the winding insulation.
